New Year Thoughts

I have always loved the fresh start that a New Year brings… but I have learned that I can make the start of any week, any month, any day feel like that way. I think as you get older the New Year doesn’t seem as scary because you have experienced so many new things by this point. New jobs, new houses, new schools, new friends, new relationships, new family. New becomes less scary when you’ve seen it before. However, I am a sucker for the sparkle and shine that comes with a New Years Eve celebration. I do love a good excuse to dress up and celebrate! I guess what I’m trying to get at is that the excitement that comes with New Years Eve is fun, and it’s good to celebrate, but it’s also important to remember that we have control over fresh starts and we can make one any time we want. I think for some, New Years Eve is exciting because it’s the one fresh start you get a year – a whole new year at your finger tips to set goals for and to bring on big changes – but I also think that it’s good to remember you can choose that the start of any day/week/month can be the fresh start you need.

This year, my big personal goal is to bring my best self to my husband and family. I’m really good at making sure I have the right attitude/demeanor when I’m with friends or acquaintances or people I don’t see everyday all day. I am not good at making sure Jaron and my family get the best version of me. It’s easy to become too comfortable with people you see allll the time and to not even think twice about saying rude/thoughtless things just because they have to love you. Something I’ve been working on, that I plan on working on throughout the year, is not being thoughtless with how I interact with Jaron and my family, but rather to make sure that I’m the kind and thoughtful person I can be when I’m my best self.

Like I said above, every day can be a fresh start and I’m working on reminding myself everyday that today is a day I will be sure to bring my most happy, positive, kind self. Butttt, the start of the New Year is a good time to reflect on that progress and I know I have a long way to go! I’m excited to see what 2018 is like for us, but I’m especially excited to see how I am when I choose to bring my best self!

What is your big goal for this year?
